On a relaxing Saturday evening in Soho, we wandered around exploring for new restaurants for dinner on the night and stumbled across this American diner called Jackson + Rye. We had a quick scan through their menu outside and their South American chowder and buttermilk fried chicken immediately caught my attention. Coincidentally I’ve been craving for fried chicken all night.
There is a vintage looking American bar in the restaurant by the entrance and the dining area is behind the bar. The atmospheric dining area was full of romance and liveliness. As the enthusiastic waitress lead us to our table, we were deeply impressed by the environment, especially all the Art Deco lightings and wooden blinds.
It didn’t take us long to decide what we want on the menu. We went for buffalo wings, chowder, buttermilk fried chicken and eggs on steak. These are my favourite American dishes, but I highly recommend trying these at Jackson + Rye.
My chowder arrived shortly after a few sip of prosecco. The waitress served my soup in a jar and it was poured in a bowl in front of me. Its aroma was breathtaking and they put a grill scallop on top. That has to be the best chowder I ever had in the UK! Stephen’s buffalo wings were really good too. The wings came with 3 different sauces. I particularly liked how they put the sauce on the side, so you can decide how spicy you want it to be!
Stephen had an Oreo & Rye Thick Shake (Oreo cookies, rye whiskey & banana) as his drink and he finished it before our mains arrived. He murmured that it tasted like dessert and should’ve ordered it as a dessert instead. Our mains were amazing, not only the fact that they are presentable, both the steak and fried chicken were tender and juicy too.
All in all, we really enjoyed our evening and look forward to dining there again very soon. If you’re on the tight budget, don’t worry, you can try their lunch & pre-theater menu 12:00-18:30 during the week, £15.95 for three courses and £12.95 for two courses. Enjoy! <3
